Blackrock Observatory in Cork City
The Address Cork
In a collaboration between the Cork Institute of Technology and Cork City Council, Blackrock Castle was re-opened to the public in November 2007 as CIT Blackrock Castle Observatory. It promotes science, engineering and technology, continuing to bring science education back down to Earth, making it accessible for all.
If you’re interested in stars and astronomy why not pay Blackrock Castle a visit. The castellated fortification is located on the banks of the River Lee. The castles observatory houses an award-winning interactive astronomy centre which is open to the public and has exhibits including a “tour of the universe” and a radio telescope that beams messages composed towards nearby stars. You can send a message to space at the Pan Galactic Station and it will be sent at your command via the castle’s radio telescope and beamed into space.
Situated just 20 minutes drive from The Address Cork, Blackrock Observatory has everything you need to plan your family, group or individual trip. In an historic 16th century castle BCO makes a fantastic destination for a great day out filled with science, cosmos and history!
